What are legacy flashlights?
While HDS has manufactured many LED lights over the last 20 years, the reflectors and bezels we have available are compatible with a middle group of lights manufactured from March 2008 through December of 2010. These lights are characterized by the 24TPI "V” threads and serial numbers below 20,000.
The sleeve springs are for earlier lights have the very fine 32TPI anodized threads. If your light has a sleeve spring around the battery - you know who you are.
Some additional information on the legacy models: The recent legacy Clicky-style models had three different battery compartment designs.
The first generation design used a non-removable switch cap and can be identified by the 4 tiny holes at 90° intervals close to the battery tube - i.e., close to the edge where the switch cap meets the battery tube. Do not try to unscrew or otherwise disassemble the switch cap on a first generation battery compartment as you will damage it.
The switch cap on the second generation battery compartment unscrews and you will see two U shaped wires on the end of the battery compartment and a circuit board with a ring inside the switch cap.
Although a pocket clip will fit into the gap between the switch cap and the battery compartment, the second generation battery compartment was not designed to accommodate pocket clips and the switch may stop functioning while a pocket clip is installed.
The third generation battery compartment uses the current design - i.e., the switch cap unscrews, there is a tactile switch on the end of the battery compartment and the button is retained by a threaded retaining ring - allowing the rubber button to be swapped.
